Learn How to Match Coupons

Menu planning, finding and organising coupons, and using price books are just a few of the ways to save money at the grocery store and drugstore.

The following step is to do coupon matching. This is the process of matching coupons to on-sale items in order to maximise your savings. The steps below will get you started matching sales at your local store with coupons.

The first step is to research what is on sale at the store where you intend to shop. Sign up to receive the ads by mail, or if the store has a website, you can often print the weekly ad from the internet. Once you have the ad, go through each item on sale and circle or "X" all the super discounted items. Next, look for items on Buy One Get One Free sales or with group discounts, such as buy $25 worth and get $5 off. Finally, mark items that are on sale that you want to buy.

The next step is to look for free working coupons for the items you circled. There are numerous free coupon databases available online. Click on the database and enter the name of the product you circled in the advertisement. Often, the fewer letters you use for the product you're looking for, the better the results. For example, the ad could mention a sale on Ultra Tide Powder Detergent. Just type "Tide" into the database to see all the results, including any Ultra Tide Powder Detergent coupons.

The following are the rules for using coupon codes:

  • The seller determines the list of products covered by the discount as well as the amount of the discount.
  • The promo code is not registered for a specific client's name and may be transferred to another person for free.
  • To receive a discount on a promo code, enter it in a special field on the order formation page's form.
  • The promo code discount cannot be combined with any other promotional codes, discounts, or offers.
  • The discount on the promo code in no way implies a monetary refund of the discount amount.
  • The promotional code is valid until the specified date, after which it will become invalid.

The database will include both online printable coupons and paper coupons. The printable coupons will include a link that you can use to print the coupons you want. The paper coupons indicate where you can find the coupon, when it was available, and when it expires. A Amazon coupon, for example, could have appeared in the SmartSource newspaper insert during the third week of March. Depending on how you keep your coupons organised, you can then go to them and find them.

It is best to search for each item by name, print those that are available, and keep a list of the paper coupons along with the source and date. When you've finished your search, go find the printed coupon you require from your coupon stash.

Make a list of the best deals you intend to buy, gather together the coupons that match your list, and then head to the store.

If you see something on sale that you really want but can't find a coupon for it in the database, you can always search the internet for other resources that might have a coupon. I usually begin by visiting the company website for the product that I want. For example, if there was no Pizzahut coupons in the database, I would go to Pizzahut website to see if one was available there, or on the Pizzahut Facebook page. If I still can't find a coupon, I may decide not to buy that product until I can find a better deal.

You may see a printable coupon listed, but when you click through to get the coupon, it is either unavailable or no longer available. This is because many printable internet coupons have printing limits, and the limit may have been reached. There is no way of knowing when this might happen, and there is no database that can tell you when to remove a printable coupon. It can be discouraging, but printable coupons on the internet often change and may be back in 60 or 90 days.

After going through the process a few times and adapting it to your own preferences, you'll realise how simple it is to match up coupons. It will assist you in planning where you want to shop and will allow you to save a significant amount of money.
